The Red Arrows battled both foe and rain at the MHSAA D1 regional meet held at Portage Central. Lowell was still able to get the job done in the wet conditions as they scored in eleven events and crowned one regional champion. Annika and Katrina Sandman both hit the AQ mark in the 1600m as they finished 4th and 6th respectively. In the 3200m, Annika Sandman pulled away at the mile mark to get the win going 10:44 while sister Katrina took 4th. Both performances qualified them for the state meet. Isabel German had a great day with a runner-up finish in the 400m and 4th place finishes in both the 200m and the PV (11-03 met state meet AQ mark). Seniors Aubriegh Oswald and Ivy Mcdonald both earned 3rd place finishes in the shot put and HJ while Leah Krieger grabbed 4th in the 100H.

Lowell Uses Strong Day 2 to Finish 3rd on OK White

Arrows Lose: -
Throughout the regular season Lowell’s losses were all by small margins coming down to one event going one way or another. Because of that it was no surprise that the Arrows were in the top three teams throughout the conference meet.   Lowell used a strong 2nd day of the OK White Conference meet to stay in contention as there were four conference champions as well as scoring in five other events to tie GR Christian for 3rd place (two points behind EGR) in a meet won by FHC. Lowell tied for 3rd in the overall OK White (combining regular season and conference meet) w/ Byron Center which was not a surprise as Lowell beat them by 1 pt in the regular season.   Leah Krieger started the day off winning a controversy filled 100H setting a PR time of 15.85. Leah would follow-up the win with another PR and win in the 300H going 48.96. Annika and Katrina Sandman were up next in the 1600m running in the top three for the majority of the race as they went 3rd and 5th respectively. Annika would later win the 3200m title with a time of 10.55.64. Katrina would score points in the 800m taking 3rd and close the day with silver medalist honors in the 3200m. Isabel German lowered her 400m PR to under the minute mark going 59.80 to grab the title.   Isabel would close her day with a 3rd place finish in the 200m which capped a conference meet where she also took 2nd in PV and 5th in the 100m.   Lowell got some great scoring on Thursday as Aubriegh Oswald captured 2nd in the shot put and 6th in the discus. Leah Krieger threw out a 6” PR in the LJ going 15-8.50 which was good for 3rd , Brooklyn Wobma grabbed 4th in the PV, and Ivy Mcdonald set a new PR in the HJ going 4-10 which was good for 5th. The 3200m relay was the only running final on Thursday and the team of Annika Sandman, Audrey Latchaw, Jadyn Young, and Katrina Sandman went 10:05.50 to grab 4th place. The team’s time was less than 1 second off the school record.   All conference athletes were Leah Krieger, Annika Sandman, Isabel German, Katrina Sandman, and Aubriegh Oswald.   Lowell is off until Friday as they head to Portage for the MHSAA D1 regionals where the girls will try and punch their ticket to the state meet.

Arrows Lose: 63 - 74
Lowell won nine of the thirteen individual events but came up six points short from the magic number to capture the win against EGR. Many say that relays win meets and EGR used their relays to get the win. In addition to the wins Lowell also saw 27 PR’s on the day as the kids took advantage of both the competition and weather to get some great marks. Lowell had two multiple winners as Isabel German captured the three sprint events and Leah Krieger captured both hurdle events. Record board highlights included Isabel German moving to #6 on the board in the 400m with a time of 60.53 and Leah Krieger moved to #7 in the 100mH with a time of 16.09.   Lowell is off until next week where they will be at Byron Center for the OK White Conference meet.
Lowell Cruises to Wins against Greenville and Northview

Arrows Lose: -
Lowell scored in all events and in many cases had multiple athletes hit performances that put points in the bag as the Arrows scored wins against both Northview and host Greenville. Many athletes also had big days with both PR’s and multiple wins. Isabel German won the PV and swept the sprint events which was highlighted with a season best time in the 400m. Leah Krieger swept both hurdle events and then capped it off with a win in the LJ. Annika and Katrina Sandman took one-two in all distance events with Annika winning the 1600 and 3200 while Katrina took the win in the 800m. Aubriegh Oswald won both the shot put and discus while Ivy Mcdonald grabbed 3rd in both. Lowell kicked the meet off with wins in the HJ and in the 3200m relay as Ivy Mcdonald jumped a PR 4-08 while Annika, Audrey Latchaw, Mia Kinney, and Katrina ran a 10:41.58 in the relay.

Arrows Lose: -
The Lady Arrows used strong field event and distance crew to grab runner-up honors at the Kathy Talus Invitational. The Arrows bested Grandville HS by 1.5 points in a meet won by fellow OK White Member Byron Center. The Arrows grabbed four first place finishes and had some near record performances. Annika Sandman won the 1600m in 5:06.26 which was a second off the meet record. Sandman also joined the team of Audrey Latchaw, Mia Kinney, and sister Katrina in the DMR which took first but again came up short of the meet record. In the field events Isabel German won the individual PV and teamed with Brooklyn Wobma to win the PV relay in 17-00. German cam back later in the meet to take silver medalist honors in the 100m in 13.10.

Arrows Win: 112 - 21
The Lady Arrows used their OK White opener to get their track legs back after spending time away on Spring Break in defeating FHN 112-21. Lowell took advantage of numerous 1-2 finishes to get the necessary points early in the meet. The meet was much needed as it allowed the Arrows to try athletes in new events as well as using the meet as a workout. Arrows Lose: -
Lowell Repeats as Snowmelter Champs   It took five years, but the Lowell girls track team defended their 2018 Snowmelter title with a team score of 653.5 which out distanced runner-up Sparta by 50 points. It took five years as the Snowmelter was cancelled due to both weather and the pandemic in the years in between. The meet was the first time the 2023 team was able to compete outside and was also the first time the girls were in a meet that used the MITCA scoring system in which three athletes from each team score in every event; thus, eighteen people score with a six-team field.   Lowell took advantage of multiple first place wins in the field events to start the ball rolling and built on it with 6 wins on the track as well as two first place finishes for relays.   There were multiple events where Lowell either went 1-2 or where we had a 1-3 finish in events which help build the point total quickly. Multiple event winners were Annika Sandman (800, 1600, 3200), Isabel German (PV, 100,200, 400mrelay), and Aubriegh Oswald (Shot Put, Discus). Five girls hit the AQ (automatic qualifying) mark to earn their varsity letter.   Team Scoring Lowell                           653.5 Sparta                           601.5 GRTC                             312 GR Union                     157 GR Wellspring Prep 150 Grand River Prep      117   Finishing in the top three were.
