Lowell Repeats as Snowmelter Champs

It took five years, but the Lowell girls track team defended their 2018 Snowmelter title with a team score of 653.5 which out distanced runner-up Sparta by 50 points. It took five years as the Snowmelter was cancelled due to both weather and the pandemic in the years in between. The meet was the first time the 2023 team was able to compete outside and was also the first time the girls were in a meet that used the MITCA scoring system in which three athletes from each team score in every event; thus, eighteen people score with a six-team field.

Lowell took advantage of multiple first place wins in the field events to start the ball rolling and built on it with 6 wins on the track as well as two first place finishes for relays.   There were multiple events where Lowell either went 1-2 or where we had a 1-3 finish in events which help build the point total quickly. Multiple event winners were Annika Sandman (800, 1600, 3200), Isabel German (PV, 100,200, 400mrelay), and Aubriegh Oswald (Shot Put, Discus). Five girls hit the AQ (automatic qualifying) mark to earn their varsity letter.
