Seventeen LMS athletes joined one thousand of their peers in participating in the All-Weather Seal Megastar Track Invitational held at Red Arrow Stadium this past Wednesday. It was one of the largest track meets in the state as there were 84 schools represented as well as 20 unattached athletes (not affiliated with a school). Lowell competed in the “Large” school division and saw some PR performances as well as school records get established on a near perfect evening. Competing in the meet itself is an accomplishment as the athletes needed to hit a qualifying mark to be entered. Getting the best of the best is the goal of the meet.
Seventh grader Avi Elabed had a big day as he medaled in both the 1600m and 3200m finishing in 5th and 2nd respectively. Avi’s 1600m time of 4:56 was a PR while his 3200m time of 10:34.24 was a new school record. The pole vault saw the other school record as McKoye Yaw went 10’ which was good for 3rd place. Other medalists for the boys were Braam Maatman finishing 5th in the 400 (56.02PR) and Ty Malach finishing 6th in the 200H (28.80PR).
Seven girls represented LMS at the meet with four athletes setting new personal records. Lily Dyer set two of those PR’s as she medaled in the two hurdle events as she took 3rd in the 55H (9.48) and 6th in the 200H (32.00). The two other PR’s were set by Maddyn Johnston in the 100m (13.67) and Emma Putnam in the 1600m (5:45.72).
