Lowell Earns 5th place at MHSAA Regional Meet, send two to state
Ending a season by hitting both team and personal goals is the best way to do it and is exactly what the Lowell Harriers did on Saturday at Allendale HS. Earlier in the season the runners wrote down a team and personal goal and a top 7 finish at regionals was the most common team goal. Saturday they made the goal happen wit ha 5th place finish just 12 points behind neighboring Forest Hills Central. In addition to the team success Lowell was able to corwn a regional champion as Annika Sandman took control of the race at the 2000m mark to grab the gold medal and a new school record of 18:14. Katrina Sandman hung around in the top 15 for the entire race and also scored a medal and an invitation to the state meet with a 14th place finish and a new PR of 19:32. Keira Sandman was the next Arrow across the finish taking 22nd place in 19:53, and freshmen Claire O’Boyle and Megan Lillie closed out their freshmen campaigns taking 46th in a PR 20:58 and 57th in 21:29 respectively. Completing the varsity was Jamara Harper in 58th with a PR 21:33 and Kaylee Byrne in 85th with a time of 23:25.
The teams one to five average time of 20:01 was the number 3 time on the Lowell record board.
