The Lowell Boys and Girls Track Teams closed out the 2026 team portion of the season at the MHSAA Regional meet at Portage Central HS. Both teams from Eat Kentwood won the regional team title as Lowell finished in 11th for the boys with the girls finishing in 13th place. Olivia Lothian was the highlight for the girls as she took silver medalist honors in the pole vault going 11’ and earning an invite to The Division 1 State Meet on May 30th at Rockford HS. Ethan Berg kept the field event magic going as he took 4th place in the long jump with a jump of 21’4” (LHS #3) which equals the state qualifying mark which punches his ticket to the May 30th event. On the track, Marshall Huhn grabbed 5th place in the 1600m with a time of 4:21.75. His time met the state qualifying mark for the state meet. Huhn will be entered in both the 1600m and 3200m at the meet as he met the 3200m EQ standard at the Shephard Blue Jay invitational earlier in the month. Closing out the state meet qualifiers was senior Cooper Byrne who avenged his one-second miss at last year’s regionals by hitting the marl by a second this year. Byrne finished in 6th place going 9:33.52. Lowell had additional medalists on the day with Tyler Bromley taking 8th in the 800m in a time of 2:01.53 (LHS #10) and the 400m relay team of Ian Kuntz, Ethan Berg, Brady Smith, and Mitchell Eikey took 7th place with a time of 44.78 which is the LHS #4 time. Lyle O’Boyle moved up to #4 on the LHS board in the pole vault with a vault of 12’9” which was also good for 7th place. In the throws senior Brayd Smith hit 146’10” in the discus which was 2’ feet shy of the state qualifying mark. His mark moves him toe #8 on the LHS board. Freshman Ellery Bieneman’s throw of 33’1” earned her 5th place and put her on the LHS record board at #10. Harper Scheadig scored the final medal with her 8th place leap in the long jump with a personal best 15’11.5”. The Arrows will have individual participating in the U of M Medical Metro Meet on Tuesday at Byron Center. The distance runners will be at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids on Saturday for the Under the Lights Distance Meet. The four state qualifiers will compete at Rockford HS on May 30th.
